Sunset Catamaran Cruises in Mauritius: A Quiet €49.16 Sail Against a €84.92 Dinner Night With No Reviews Yet
6 min read
Sunset cruises in Mauritius are two different evenings sold under one name. One is two hours on a catamaran with drinks and snacks. The other is four to five hours with dinner and music. The ratings split the same way: 4.7 for the first kind, 3.2 for the one of the second kind that has reviews.
For most people: the northern sunset catamaran cruise from Grand Baie at €49.16 per person – 4.7 stars from 84 reviews, two hours, drinks and snacks on board. On the west coast: the same operator runs a western version at the same price, but with only 8 reviews. For a party: the dinner cruise with music at €74.50 per person. For a group of your own: a private catamaran at €425 for up to 25 people, on the east coast and without food or drink.
The four cruises side by side
| Cruise | Departs from | Duration | From | Rating | Suits |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Northern sunset catamaran cruise, drinks and snacks | Grand Baie | 2 hours | €49.16 per person | 4.7 · 84 | a calm evening, couples, friends |
| Western sunset catamaran cruise, drinks and snacks | Black River, listed under La Preneuse | 2 hours | €49.16 per person | 4.6 · 8 | staying on the west coast |
| Grand Baie: Sunset Catamaran Cruise with Dinner | Grand Baie | 5 hours | €84.92 per person | no reviews | a party night with dinner |
| Private sunset cruise off Île aux Aigrettes | Pointe Jerome, east coast | 2 hours | €425 per group of up to 25 | 4.7 · 27 | your own group |
The €74.50 cruise adds a dinner and three hours to the €47.93 cruises. The private boat is priced per group, which makes it look expensive until you divide it: 25 people would pay €17 each, two people would pay €212.50 each, and in both cases food and drink are extra.
The northern cruise is the calm one
Blue Safari runs this from Sunset Boulevard, the waterfront promenade in Grand Baie, where the catamaran is moored at the jetty. You meet the crew at 4:45pm in summer or 4:15pm in winter, sailing starts at 5pm or 4:30pm, and you are back at 7pm or 6:30pm. The page does not say which months count as summer, so check that when you pick a date. The page gives no sunset time, only these departure times.
The drinks list is generous: local rum, red, rosé and white wine, Phoenix beer, juice, soft drinks and water. The snacks are canapés rather than a meal: smoked marlin and foie gras on croutons, nachos and dips, moolkoo and banana chips. There is a shaded lounge area, a trampoline, a professional crew and life jackets. Bring a jacket, because the page warns that it gets cold at sunset, and a change of clothes. Tips and personal spending are extra. The page’s list of extras puts hotel pickup right next to souvenirs and tips, so do not count on a pickup and ask the operator if you need one.
“Calm” needs one qualification. Two guests mention music and a lively mood once the sun is down, one saying the vibe “turned into party” after sunset. It is not a DJ night, but it is not silent either.

The western cruise has the same menu and little evidence
The operator, boat, menu, price and timetable are the same as in the north, but the cruise leaves from the Le Morne Anglers’ Club jetty in Black River. It lists a guest toilet on board, which the northern page does not. The rating is 4.6 from 8 reviews, which is too few to separate it from the northern one in either direction.
One review on the page deserves a mention. A guest describes the cruise being cancelled, with notice arriving only as the tour was about to start, after they had paid for a taxi to the jetty. The operator replied on the page, apologised and said it would look into the refund. It is a single report, but it is the kind that matters for a tour whose start is a taxi ride away. Confirm a day or two ahead.

The DJ cruises: more evening, lower ratings
The €74.50 cruise promises a freshly prepared dinner, drinks and music with onboard entertainment over about 5 hours from Grand Baie. It has no reviews yet, so there is no rating to go on, and its page names music and entertainment rather than a DJ. We found no itinerary or review text we could quote, so check the meeting point and what is included on the booking page.
A second party cruise from Grand Baie costs €54.40 and promises a BBQ dinner, unlimited drinks and a DJ over about four to five hours, from Grand Baie Public Beach. Its rating is 4.6 from 8 reviews and hotel pickup is not included (the operator can arrange it for a fee). With so few reviews and the lowest score of the five, we do not link it.
If you want a party night on a boat with dinner, and you accept that this cruise has no guest ratings yet, book the €74.50 one. If you are choosing between a quiet sunset and a loud one, note that the quiet one costs €26.57 less and has 84 reviews at 4.7.

The private cruise is on the other coast
This is not a north or west cruise. It leaves from Pointe Jerome near Mahébourg, on the east coast, and anchors in front of the Île aux Aigrettes nature reserve; the page says you watch the sunset over the mountain tops. Depending on tides and wind, the route runs either to the Dalbair wreck or towards Grand Port. The price is for the boat, for up to 25 people, over two hours.
Food and drinks are not included. You can bring your own, there is no corkage charge, and the operator can arrange catering for an extra fee. Snorkelling equipment is not part of it either, so bring your own if you want to swim. Take a towel and a jacket. For a family of four, a birthday or a group of friends this is the only option here where nobody else is aboard, and 4.7 from 27 reviews is a solid score.

Who should skip these
Both Blue Safari cruises list people with mobility impairments and people prone to seasickness as not suitable. That is the operator’s own list for its cruises, not a legal rule. If either applies to you, ask before booking; we are not giving medical advice.
We found no minimum age on any of these pages, which means nobody has written one down, not that any age is fine. One reviewer took a two-year-old on the northern cruise and said he enjoyed it. If you are travelling with small children, ask the operator, and be wary of a DJ cruise that runs for up to five hours.
If you want dinner, the two-hour cruises will not do it: they serve canapés and drinks and the boat is back at 7pm or 6:30pm. If you want to swim or see islands, you want a day trip, not a sunset sail. We cover those in the northern islands catamaran day cruise and in the boat trips to Île aux Cerfs. And if a boat is not essential, a 1.5-hour sunset kayak trip on the Tamarin river with a rum tasting on the beach costs €56 (one review so far), and the kayak guide covers the daytime alternatives.
What to book
Book the northern sunset catamaran cruise from Grand Baie at €49.16. It costs the least of the per-person cruises here, level with the western one, and has by far the most reviews (72) at 4.7. Take the western version only if you are staying in the west and the drive to Grand Baie is the problem. Choose the €74.50 dinner cruise only if the party is the point, and the private boat only if the group is yours.
