Is a Seabob Experience in Mauritius Worth €98 for One Hour?

4 min read

A swimmer holds a white underwater scooter just below the bright blue surface of the sea

For travellers who want a short powered-water activity rather than a full dive, the Mauritius Seabob Diving Experience is a credible choice: €98 per person for one hour, rated 4.7 from 33 reviews. Book it for the sensation of moving above and below the surface, not as a substitute for a reef dive. The booking page calls it suitable for all ages, but publishes no minimum age; families should confirm the operator’s limit for their date before paying.

What the hour actually buys

A Seabob is a powered underwater scooter: the machine does the propulsion, and the listing promises that you will “glide like a dolphin”. That makes this different from scuba: the offer does not describe tanks, a diving qualification or a long underwater route. It is also different from snorkelling, because the machine supplies the movement.

The published duration is one hour. Treat that as the complete booked activity, not a promise of sixty uninterrupted minutes underwater: the page does not split instruction, fitting and water time. If that distinction decides the purchase, ask how the hour is divided. The listing describes the activity as eco-friendly, thrilling and safe, but does not publish technical evidence behind those claims; we would choose it for the format rather than those adjectives.

At €98 per person, this is a concentrated experience. Two people pay €196 for the hour, while many lagoon outings occupy half a day for less per person. The comparison is not purely about duration: a boat day buys travel, stops and often lunch; the Seabob buys control of a powered device and a far shorter commitment.

Who gets good value

It fits a traveller with only part of a morning free, someone curious about going below the surface without booking a first scuba dive, or a couple who value an unusual activity more than hours on a boat. The 4.9 score is strong, although 33 reviews are evidence of a small activity rather than the depth of record behind Mauritius’s busiest cruises.

It is a poor buy if your real goal is marine-life interpretation, a named reef or guaranteed wildlife. None of those appears in the published description. It is also hard to justify for a large family at a per-person price unless everybody actively wants to drive the machine.

Do not infer swimming ability, age, health or mobility requirements from the phrase “all ages”. The operator’s booking page is the place to check the current participation rules and what flotation equipment is supplied. For a medical question, ask a doctor rather than relying on a sales description.

Seabob or another underwater activity?

Choose Seabob when propulsion is the attraction. Choose a first-dive package when learning basic scuba skills and spending time with an instructor matter more. Choose a glass-bottom boat when somebody in the group wants to see beneath the surface without entering the water. Those are three different purchases, even when their photographs all show blue water.

Our recommendation

Book the Seabob experience if the machine itself is on your wish list and €98 for a focused hour feels reasonable. Skip it if you mainly want a long reef excursion or the lowest cost per hour. The high rating supports the experience; the sparse published itinerary means you should not attach extra promises to it.
